Background

Guns are not the problem, people are. The government has tried to implement multiple laws regarding guns to decrease the amount of gun violence, but many laws were later considered unconstitutional specifically, the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1994. The Brady Handgun Act tried to enforce a waiting period in order to obtain a handgun and also required background checks on purchasers of handguns. On the other hand, some laws passed years ago still hold true today including the Gun Control Act of 1968. The Gun Control Act, which was a result of John F. Kennedy’s assassination, prohibited mail order sales of rifles and shotguns, increased license requirements that prohibited convicted felons, drug users and mentally incompetent people to own a gun. Chicago is known to have strict gun control laws, but the gun violence in Chicago has not significantly due to the laws. Because the massacres that have affected Americans all over the world, what makes making stricter laws now any different than the laws enforce years before? Strengthening laws concerning gun control laws have not solved the problem in the past and history has proved it, therefore, it will most likely be more beneficial to continue with the current laws rather than promoting new ones today.

Statistics/examples: The Truth

The government is trying to seek publicity when attempting to promote stricter laws; they are not necessarily trying to help us decrease the amount of violence. According to an online website, statistics show that a majority of people want only to continue the existing laws because we all know that creating more laws will not only infringe on our rights as citizens, but also not be beneficial to us, therefore, there is nothing good that comes out of enforcing new gun control laws. For example, Chicago has had strict laws regarding gun control laws for years and there continues to be high levels of gun violence within Chicago. The second amendment states that every citizen has the right to own a gun for protection, and we should not be stripped of that right because of the government’s attempt to have too much power. Ultimately, the statistics do not support actions of the government, and history as proved it.

Effects on people

In Maryland, a well-spoken fifteen-year-old girl speaks up on her position regarding gun control laws and what limiting gun control laws would do to her as a teenager and to the everyday citizen. She is a rifle student who has received scholarships that allows her to attend college. She gives statistics about the Chicago violence verses the Iraq violence as well as giving us insight of other ways violence will continue. She is a strong believer in guns not being the problem, the people are. Ultimately, she is against the legislation regarding gun control laws to protect the citizens from their constitutional rights.

3D Printer

3D printers are a thing of the future or I guess you can say of the present. 3D printers are printers that make a three-dimensional solid object, they start creating the objects layer by layer and eventually the object you wanted printed becomes real, this process is called additive manufacturing.  For the printer to work you need to have an .stl file then after the printer reads the file it starts to make the object with layers of liquid, powder, and or sheet material to create the model sheets then these sheets are automatically fused to create the final shape. It determines the thickness of the sheets of material by something called dpi which is dots per inch the normal thickness is about 100 micrometers or 0.1 mm. Depending on the type of 3D printer you have it can take from several hours to days it all just depends on how many how complex the object is and how many you are trying to create. 3D printers have been around for a very long time they may have not been very effect but in the 1970’s there were a hand full of 3D printers that were very large and very limited to what they could create.  There are even some companies that offer on-line 3D printing to customers all they have to do is up load their desired objects 3D design  to the company’s website and wait for what you have ordered. They are talking about in the future being able to recreate things like fossils and artifacts. Could you image??

Why 3D Printers are Important

The printers themselves are not limited on what they can print. Given enough time working with the design program and a person could design almost anything. A person could also design a gun. This has already been done by several people. Since the guns are printed and fused together they do not last long. Some people refer to these printed guns a "disposable gun" because after only a few shots (ten or less in some cases) the gun will be rendered useless. This is due to extreme forces from the ammunition and the non durable material construction of the gun. The guns cannot be repaired either. Some people see this as a cheep alternative to buying a gun. Since these guns are not manufactured by a company and the designs can be modified by any person with the file and a computer, the printed guns  cant be regulated by the government. Therefore they are not governed by the gun control laws and anyone can have them. This is just another way that shows how in effective gun control laws are.

Options

The idea of gun control is something that relates to everyone in some form or fashion. It also means many people have their own ideas for gun control. The debate over how to approach gun control laws is an on-going debate between lawmakers in congress and average citizens alike. Some groups would like to have laws that completely banned guns for everyone. They feel that this would help to reduce the violence that is done using guns as the weapon of choice. On the opposite side of the subject is the idea of having no gun control whatsoever. If there were to be no gun control laws, everyone would obviously have equal access to guns. Some people feel that this freedom would allow people to use their weapon more responsibly. Also since the great availability of guns, there would possibly be less violence because everyone would be protected by a gun. In the middle of these two greatly different ideas is where our country is currently located in this battle. It is the idea of not changing our current gun laws. If gun laws are changed, many people feel it infringes of their second amendment rights. Other people feel without the addition of new laws, gun violence and mass murders will continue on a fast, uncontrollable track. This is why the current debate on guns is so popular. It affects everyone now and in the future. Many people want to continue the debate to make their own respective viewpoint’s side happy. We as a WRD 111 group have a better option than the three mentioned above.

Group option

Our arguments purpose is to try and eliminate change from our Second Amendment. Currently, the government is trying to do so by placing gun laws in every aspect. We want the citizens to keep their Rights and create a middle ground for both the government and our benefits. Changing of the ‘Right to Bear Arms’ will cause an uproar within our society. With this, it is known as only benefiting the government and not the population. Thus, defeating the purpose of our so-called Democracy (For the people, by the people).

By performing a background check, we can prevent guns ending up in the wrong hands of people who wish to hurt others. This should be in tact for purchase of every piece of firearm, such as ammunition.
